French Montana’s ascension in Hip Hop should be studied! A native of Morocco. Born in Casablanca, Morocco in 1984. Came to the states at the age of 13. He and his family moved to the Bronx. When he first arrived in America, he only spoke his native language and French. He learned to speak English in school and on the streets. His passion was soccer and rap.
He started with his Coke Boys dvd series in 2002. He interviewed and recorded some of the hottest acts in rap. He also used his dvd series as a vehicle to promote his own career as an artist. Coke Boys dvd series are also credited for being the first platform to spotlight up and coming emcees, who’d eventually become rap phenoms.
His career as an artist took years of discipline, determination and perseverance. He encountered all types of roadblocks and setbacks. I’m certain there were days the total struggle took its toll on him. Nevertheless, he continued to push through until his dreams materialized into reality.
He has sold millions of records. He has a RIAA Certified Diamond single (ten million records sold) with his song Unforgettable featuring Swae Lee. In 2017 iHeartRadio gave him the Titanium Award for his song reaching 1 Billion Spins across all of their stations. He has gold and platinum plaques. He has recorded music with some of the most prominent artists of our time. He drives the most expensive cars. Wear the finest fabrics and best jewelry. He lives in the most exquisite places. He bought Selena Gomez’s home in Calabasas for $3.3 million dollars. His name has been attached to some of the baddest women in show business. And now he appears to be dating the Princess of Dubai . This man lives one helluva life!
Stateside, he hails from the South Bronx. The birthplace of Hip Hop. Recently, Fat Joe, another Bronx representative, called French Montana delusional. It was tongue and cheek. On his podcast with JadaKiss from the LOX, Joe shared a story about the success of one of his singles. He was referring to the song, All The Way Up which features him, Remy Ma and French Montana. Fat Joe called French Montana delusional because he believes “French Montana takes too much credit for their hit song.” Fat Joe said French Montana attributed the success of the song to his “golden voice.” Again, all tongue and cheek I’m sure. But you know what? Fat Joe might be on to something. To accomplish all that French Montana has accomplished in his professional career. Starting from the most humblest of beginnings here in America. Dreaming beyond comprehension of a regular person’s cognitive state. French Montana had to be delusional in his thinking. I know they call Fat Joe the Cap King. But he might be proven correct yet again. All I’m saying is French Montana’s ascension in Hip Hop should be studied. One of the best success stories of the 21st century in Hip Hop. Kudos to French Montana.
