Imaginary Players

I vividly remember when I first heard Jay Z’s Imaginary Player.  It was a different time.  I was a different person.  I was riding around the city with my big cousin from New York.  We were in his new candy apple red Jeep Cherokee with tan butter leather seats.  I wasn’t yet 25 years old.  Jay Z was talking so slick in the song, that I became entrenched.  With far less, I still thought that I could brag the same.  I think I even hollered out, “like thirty to forty grand cocksucker, beat it.”  And nobody had asked me anything.  And we weren’t driving a Range 4.0 or 4.6.  I just wanted to say some slick sh!t.

We were riding around Baltimore City.  Dreaming.  And our theme song for the moment was the fourth song on In My Lifetime Vol.1 cd.  It was a great time!

Now, almost 28 years later, Cardi B drops an imaginary player inspired song of her own.  You be the judge of the song for yourself.  For me, it’s alright.  She’s popping it like the Bronx legend she is.  It’s nostalgic.  Upon hearing the beat, instantly I was back again riding shotgun in my cousin’s jeep.  Talking bout, “those ain’t Rolex diamonds, what the f#ck you done to that?” LMAO. Youthfulness. I tell ya.
