If An Alien Landed on Earth, What Hip Hop Song Would You Play?

Me, my wife and oldest daughter were comfortably seated on the couch watching YouTube.

It was Father’s Day.

We were just hanging.

We share a love for music.

So we were just chilling, listening to timeless rap and R&B.

Then me, being the person I am, had the strangest thought.

I asked my daughter and wife,

“If an alien visited Earth and you only had one chance to interest him to Hip Hop, what song would you play?”

A fun, entertaining and engaging inquiry for a lazy Sunday evening with the people you love.

Without hesitation, my wife of 27 years, Strong Island’s very own, Kim Dews said,

“Eric B. Is President” by Eric B & Rakim.

Ooooouuu this is starting off just like I like it!

We played Eric B. Is President.

We rapped the song lyric for lyric, bar for bar.

Highlighting a strong Hip Hop quotable which arguably should be a daily affirmation.

That’s when the 18th letter rapped,

“self-esteem make it seem like the thought took years to build.”

Oh my god!

I was next.

Just as quickly as my wife did, I knew the song I’d share with E.T.

My song is “Jam Master Jay” by RUN-DMC.

At that electric guitar riff, the extraterrestrial would be mesmerized.

But once that beat dropped around 18 seconds into the song, oh my god (again).

“J-A-Y are the letters of his name. Cutting and scratching are the aspects of his game. So check out the master as he cuts these jams. And look at us with the mics in our hands.  Then take a count, 1, 2, 3, Jam Master Jay, RUN-DMC”!

I rapped that sh!t to the top of my lungs! 

While this is taking place, my daughter says, “I got mine now.” 

She initially thought when I searched my song and I entered the letter “J” into the search bar, that I was going to take her song.

When the Kings from Queens were done doing what they do.  I’m elated.  My wife is also in a reminiscent state.  And we’re convinced that Mork from the Mork & Mindy show would’ve been won over by either of our two selections. 

Our daughter dropped a bomb.

She said, “I’d play the alien PSA by Jay-Z.”

Oh my god.

“Allow me to reintroduce myself, my name is HOV”! 

It was up from there.

 I promise you before that alien would’ve left from us he’d be wearing an Adidas sweatsuit, truck jewelry and ready to move “snowflakes by the oz.”

I’m also sure he’d already have the flyest ride.  Something out of this world.

Great fun discourse between family sparked by a dad who loves engaging his people.
