In The Storm by Cornell Dews

In The Storm

One of the strongest lessons I learned as a child was taught by me simply sitting quietly.

As a kid, whenever it stormed, we congregated as a family into one room.

That room was helmed by an elder.

And that elder would tell us,
“Shhhh… be quiet.”

My grandmother would say,
“GOD is working.”

With every thundering clap of thunder…

And every flash of lightning illuminating the terrestrial sky…

We were reminded to
“Let GOD be GOD.”

There wasn’t a need to panic in the storm.

Just take cover.

Sit quietly at the feet of the wise.

Meditate.

Pray.

But, most importantly…

Let GOD be GOD.

As a child, I was clueless to the power of that message.

I didn’t understand storms.

Neither the literal kind…
Nor the metaphorical ones.

But as an adult…

One who has navigated more storms than I’d care to mention…

I finally understand.

Now, just like then…

When you find yourself in the midst of a storm…

Take cover.

Sit quietly.

Prayerfully remain in the presence of the wise.

Meditate.

Pray.

Listen.

But, most importantly…

Let GOD be GOD. 🙏🏽❤️
